The brief

A weekend retreat for one person: one room, one view, and a footprint small enough to leave every tree on the site standing.

The response

The steep A-frame sheds heavy rain quickly and keeps the plan to a single, tall room. A full-height glass gable faces the valley; everything else is closed and quiet.

The cabin was prefabricated in sections and assembled on site in nine days, on screw piles that leave the forest floor untouched.

Materials

Charred pine cladding, a standing-seam metal roof, and plywood interiors finished only with oil.
